They were crated and had preservatives so maybe it is a "mother load" find.

That said, I remember the exitement generated when they located the P38's and B-17s under the ice in Greenland a few years ago. Personally looked at "Glacier girl" in the tent at Oshkosh fresh out of the ice. My thoughts then were... "this will never fly again".

Well if you got a dataplate and enough $$$... it can fly.

But no one has gone back for any of the other ice bound airplanes.

My Baron at one point was the personal aircraft of the restorer of "Glacier Girl".

Uh oh.

There may be some vultures circling over farmer Cundall's Spitfire stash:

I'll believe it when I see it. At this point, is simply doesn't add up. Too much talk, too early makes me think that the real search is for "financial backers".

But I would love to be incorrect.

Russ,

that very project is what immediately came to my mind. I sure hope this one turns out better than one did. If I remember the initial hype on the Glacier Girls, they were expecting to restore at least what, 3 or so of them?

Here's hoping :cross:

No matter who winds up with these the history alone is priceless. Won't it be grand to see a squadron of Spitfires do a low pass at Oshkosh?

Wow!

Expect to dig up 60 of them!?!?!?!

You'd have to think that with that many aircraft in pieces in the boxes they were shipped in that there would be enough parts to assemble more than a few of these things.

Here's hoping... :cross:
