You could probably buy a TBM for the price they will sell that thing, that will take the pucker factor out of you. I know it does for me. Marc, someone told me a turbine needs a job, so I got a job. Now I need to find work for a turbine. The question will be: French or Swiss? Nick

This is a Diesel Twin that hit 190kts on its first test flight. 190 was the airspeed maximum that was allowed in their mission envelope. They are certain its cruise will be much faster. Fuel consumption (Jet A) is equal to a single engine or better. Not to mention jet fuel is cheaper. FADEC, full Garmin suite, single lever engine control etc. may make this a game changer. They have resolved the engine problems. Any thoughts? Yeah, my thoughts: Have they figured out how to take the "ugly" out of it? Diamond twins are, well, ....well, UGLY. Park a brand new one next to a 50 yr. old Baron on the ramp and check to see at which one people will look.

I'm afraid the empennage is going to break off. It looks like a helicopter tail boom.
Another if... If Austrians make airplanes the way they make dirt bikes, count me in for one.

How does one misinterpret this as meaning 7 seats? "The DA52's large cabin will accommodate up to five people -- or six, if some passengers are small or are children." Just following the Diamond naming convention... DA-20 (2-place single), DA-40 (4-place single), DA-42 (4-place twin), DA-50 (5-place single), DA-52 (5-place twin). The 7-place twin will be the DA-72, if it ever comes to fruition. At least try to appreciate the fact that someone out there is making new airplanes with diesel powered engines. And 190kts on 180hp engines is impressive, IMO. Ugly? Perhaps, or the new look of aviation that many are not quite ready for.... Find a guy who owns and spends most of his life around 70's muscle cars like the '67 GTO and ask him what he thinks of the new Nissan GT-R.

I demo'ed a 42 a while back -- the engine out procedure is awesome -- basically do nothing -- auto-feather.

I like my 450 KTM dirt bike. Runs great after you take the smog stuff off and install new gear... I like the idea of a diesel too. Username Protected wrote: I'm afraid the empennage is going to break off. It looks like a helicopter tail boom.

Nick Nick, I am of the opposite opinion. If you have a job and need to work, you can't afford a turbine. If you don't work because you already have money coming out of your ears, you might be able to afford a turbine...

If you don't work because you already have money coming out of your ears, you might be able to afford a turbine... You aren't accounting for the frugal factor. For some people, it doesn't really matter how much you have. They have trouble spending anyway. A famous example is Buffet. It's easy to find others. That's sometimes how rich people get money coming out of their ears. If I could put a turbine to work commuting once a week to Lilly, my next run through PDK would include a stop at Epps. If not, i will continue to enjoy my B36 like we did today for 3.5 hours from WI to eastern VA. What a beautiful flight. Nick

Hey, I was actaully in Weiner Newstadt the day it flew there, and seen it in the flesh. The owner of the company is an aviation godsend. We just stopped in for 100LL in a Lake Bucc on a long ferry flight, and were greeted like hero's. Free beer, free food, mighty banter with the owner and test pilots. Got a tour of his private collection, and there is no way you cannot but be impressed by what he's done. The airplane is an aerodynamic masterpiece and if you look at the price of 100LL in EUROPE at $13.57 a Gallon (US) then the JetA1 looks very appealing.
I can see the DA52 being a huge success. Still love the 58, but the Diamond is cutting edge.
