I met patrick Swayze at whiteman airport KWHP in 1999. He was a maniac and flew his plane, N414PS, a cessna 414 ram HARD. He made many trips to his other ranch home in sante fe new mexico. He kept it for years and never traded up. He could have easily afforded a turbine or jet job, king air, conquest, gulf stream, citation, but was always happy with his 414. He sold it about 1 year before he died.

Doug, Congrats! Welcome to the pressurized 100LL-burning twin club I spoke with you a while back regarding your experience with the DA42. So what did you do with the DA42?

I flown and maintained several 300/400 series Cessnas. Biggest question to begin with... what kind of air-condtioning does it have? Be sure you check the gear rigging. Actually I think , after your purchase, you ought to get a savy A&P to put it on jacks and check it. Takes a half day. It will need to be checked every annual.. The system will drift. Mostly due to bushing and bolt wear. check the fuel flows. Be familiar with the 50 hour exhaust inspection requirement. Check the dynamic prop balance. RAM does not do it.. they'll tell you otherwise but I found a few that had not been touched. Besides twin cessna flyers, the Cessna Pilots Association has a group of guys owners/operators/mechanics who are very savy. It will run fine LOP once its set up. I know a 340A who runs 11.5 gph per side at 170 knots. We are getting a 421b down to 14.

Should be a 414 forum somewhere...... Get out your checkbook. The 414A is a good airplane but getting very expensive to operate as the fleet is aging. Even the very nice ones. Cessna did have the market on pressurised twins that's for sure. The 414A and the 421 B &C are my faves. Very capable if that's the mission you need to fill. Needs to be corporate owned unless you are somewhat wealthy... At least to maintain it correctly. Good luck! PMC
