TBM should cost about $500/hr, and I'd guess about $1800/hr for CJ. But 2million to buy? That sounds a bit much to me.. A lot much if you ask me.

If he's not gonna fly it himself, get the CJ. It'll be a nicer ride. And dont forget to give him my number :)

I'd still get the PC 12. It might take a little longer but it would be more comfortable.

Really, the answer to any question of "which turbine plane to buy" if staying under $5 million is PC12. There's just no need to buy anything else.

The CJ1 price is high in today's market. If I were flying employees, jet all the way. Better ability to top weather, redundant systems, built to transport category specs, potty and beverage center.

Don't forget, that CJ1 potty's pretty much a bucket behind a curtain. Fact is, you probably don't want to use it except in exigent circumstances.

Among the zillion airplane ad emails I receive daily is an ad for a 99 CJ for 1.4M. ~4,000 TT, 700 SOH...

I'm a Bonanza guy, with occasional t-bone/Beech 18/P-Baron delusions, not a CJ guy.

But if I was Ed's buddy, I could find a better deal on a CJ than the one he is considering.

The CJ1 that is being offered is a 2002 with about 1000 hrs TT at $2.7 and I know that's a bit high but in looking at comparable CJ1s, it only appears to be about 300 to 400 above others listed on Controller. Does anyone have a dollar figure per hour that might be added or subtracted on a CJ for hours over or under average time? I realize that's alot and he's probably not going to do the deal because of the management deal that's being offered (looks pretty tough to me). So now he's back to the 700C and hiring a pilot full time that can also manage the day to day operations as well as fly the airplane. That is how he handled his MU2's about 15 years ago. I looked at a great hangar yesterday (only $250,000). Spending other peoples money is almost as much fun as spending your own. :)

And how is it serviced?

I picture some filthy lav cart pulling up next to the front door. An equally filthy hose snaking down the aisle, between those leather seats to the back to get to the "bucket" .

:btt:

...by the poor unpaid sap with 3 stripes who sits in the right seat to collect 'jet experience'.

I thought you had some sort of plastic bag with absorbent stuff in there that you seal up and discard at the destination rather than dragging the lav-cart hose into the cabin.

Hi Ed,
You mentioned that your friend has had an MU 2 in the past but wants a 700C now. I realize you're exchanging lower aquisition cost for higher operation cost, but is there another reason he doesn't want to go back to an MU 2?

Many of the Citations say "flushable potty" in the specs. It is not until you get up to the 650's, that you see "externally serviceable lav". in the specs..

I know, crazy curiosity, lol Just seeing some of the awesome cabins, got to wondering how they get thru the cabin to service that disgusting thing, haha

Those two proposed airplanes have a very different mission capability.

A TBM will go into 500m tarmac runways, and has a long range; something like 1800nm to zero fuel.

I did a flight in one last year
http://www.peter2000.co.uk/aviation/tbm850/index.html

I recall the price list included a toilet. Not externally servicable, obviously :)

Peter,
That's the best write up I've seen on the 850. Thanks for the great info.
