Good morning George; How's that shiner doin'? :duck:

The shiner has transformed into something .... ah... much more impressive.

Bruise now goes all the way down to my jaw.

Darn, I didn't know that the blond had a boy friend.

George

OK, time for details.

Pics, or it never happened.

While we're at it...

...do I gather, from reading that (very convincing) point-by-point comparison between the TCM turbo SR22 and the TAT SR22 that Cirrus has stopped marketing the TAT as a factory option?

I think TN is a great way to make a NA plane better. I can't see how it adds $100k value to the factory TC installation. Where is the ROI in that?

They quit building 36TC's 10 years ago. You'd have a point if they were still being built.

I don't see how that negates my point. They quit building P-51's long ago but people would still love to have one. Beech never made a TN Bo yet people still want and like them. There are a lot of 36TC's on the registry today. How many have been converted to TN's or NA's?

Converting a TC to TN is, I suspect, more complicated than converting NA to TN, particularly if you want to upgrade the compression from 7.5 to 8.5. I'd guess the feeling among TC owners is "it's good enough, I've just paid a bunch of money for TC, I don't particularly want to lavish another 50AMU on this engine".

I really don't understand Cirrus' decision, though - seems like a great leap backward to a 30 year old engine technology. But Cirrus badly needs sales to keep its doors open, and TCM may have made them an offer they couldn't refuse.

I could be wrong but I think I recall reading that Piper and Cirrus, when offering turbo versus non-turbo for the same model, that the turbo outsells the NA. Our airplane basic engines technology is more than 30 years old so again, I don't quite understand the beating down of TC's just because the turbo technology is that old. As a TC owner my feeling is not "good enough". I love the plane and the engine. Now, I have never owned a TN, just NA's before this. I have read a lot and think they are a great upgrade for an NA bird. I'm just not convinced of the "benefits" of TN versus TC, especially when I would be looking close to 100AMU for the change out.

I think you just broke the code.

That, and the folks running Cirrus now aren't . . . uh . . . well . . .

"well versed" comes to mind.

I wish GAMI would just buy Superior and start making engines!

GE sold a lot of turbines in the past due to available credit from GE Capital. Do you think a little extra credit from TCM for motors had anything to do with Cirrus' new TN offering?

Cirrus has had two years of losses (that they announced), and and deals like this get struck in times like these.

I've seen it in boats. It's the motor guys that keeps the manufacturers swimming in tough times.

The video said Continental developed new cylinders with bigger fins. According to TAT's info, the new motor is hotter. So.....I wonder what a new set of cylinders will cost? :ahhh:
