I see some comparisons to the IVP.

I have flown the piston IVP and I have nothing good to say about it except that it is fast. It is not an airplane for anyone other than a very professional, well trained, and very current pilot. It has zero tolerance for wing contamination... ZERO! How do you fly an airplane in the mid-twenties that has ZERO tolerance for wing contamination? The piston version has a highly stressed poorly cooled engine in an airplane with a 70+ knot stall speed and totally uncertifiable low-speed handling....

I would not own either version of a IVP nor would I recommend one to my friends. I would not fly one in low IFR, over hostile terrain, or at night. Moving the stall speed from 50 something to 70 something cuts off airport landing survivability by a huge margin. Further, an average pilot can actually full stall land the Evolution, NO ONE would try to full stall land a IVP.

The Evolution is, and was designed to be, the antithesis of the IVP. Low stall speed, great handling, better engine solutions, adequate fuel in the turbine and too much gas in the piston.

The Evolution is a great airplane. If Lycoming can deliver their promises on the EI2 engine, it just might change the way we think about turbines vs pistons..... 250 Kts w/4 people over 10nm/gallon is incredible...

If the EC2 engine works and can live dependably in the Mid-twenties, the Malibu/Mirage conversion business will be brisk. And some one will build and certify an airplane that looks very much like the Evolution....

I got to fly this too! Actually it was more like a ride.... But talk about a wild ride... Really fun, but certainly not a practical airplane with a CJ-610 or J-85.... Talk about outta gas and on fire on departure.... There are plans for a JT-15 powered version that has some baggage. This one had essentially no bag space.

The fact that the demo pilot would not let me take it off or land it, made me think it must be kinda sporty to handle, but I did not see any real snakes in it. It was the only pilot report I have ever done where I was not allowed to land the airplane.....
