I misread the post about Oshkosh as 2018 not 2008 haha.

Not fur nuthin, but I’ve personally witnessed two “BT Derelict” airplanes, assigned by the BT wisdom to a destiny of scrap be flown away and enjoyed by the new owners. Did they need a bit of work, cleverness and willingness to fly OLD systems? Indeed. Maybe there was a spar inspection that condemned this hull. Maybe owner just lost ability to pay attention. But without actually knowing the facts, ya never know. I’m voting for the underdog.

Can you say “Civil Asset Forfeiture” boys and girls? There are several stories of unethical law enforcement types staking out the roads leading to auto auction locations that only accepted cash. They perform a traffic stop for some ludicrous or made up reason, ask the driver if they have contriban or large amounts of cash and then “arrest” the money. The driver then has to prove the money was not acquired illegally. The money is then turned over to the DEA with a percentage kept by the officers local department. Legalized piracy!

Sounds like a set up ! Agreed.... this whole deal is very sketchy. Even if I could afford to bid, I would not touch this one with the proverbial ten foot pole.

If I were nearby I'd turn up with $500 in my pocket. Who knows, you might be the only bid but likely, some scrap metal guy will be on scene with a loader and a wad of cash

At least Jimmy or Rebuild Rescue might be better than a scrapper. ...but it would have been nice if the current owner could have donated it to CAF or the Smithsonian and someone could have paid the ramp fees to keep it there until it warmed up.

With the terrible terms for the auction I wonder if someone in the background that wants it is dictating such terms.

A few years ago I happened to be at a Florida airport when they auctioned off a "derelict" T-28. Looked good to me, but I don't know the history. It went to the FBO, their winning bid was simply to forgive the back hangar rent owed.

Even worse, get pulled over by the authorities with $20,000 in cash. Cash is not king with the police.

It might be negative value as it sits which is why the owners abandoned it.
It might never fly again.

The return might be other than financial.
