My Cardinal RG turns almost identical numbers to an early SR20. 145kts at 9.5gph. Cabin almost as big as the Cirrus, similar useful loads. Easier to get in and out, no parachute repack, and 1/3 the cost.

Not saying the Cardinal is "better" than the Cirrus. They are different animals. Just that Cessna, Piper, and Beech back in the 70's weren't so dumb. I may not be able to afford a Cirrus but I can afford Cirrus like performance.

Or maybe Cirrus delivered Cardinal RG-like performance, 25 years later at much greater cost? :D

I keep looking at a white lightening for sale on controller....
Should beat all of these....

Just don't think the wife would enjoy the cramped cockpit...

Yes, 25 years later they made a fixed-gear airplane with the same performance as a retractable. And of course without the insurance premium of the retractable. A 25-year newer airplane will be a greater cost.

Interesting power setting. I assume WOT and 2630 rpm. I guess when you’re WOT in a Cirrus the prop governor goes to near max? Engine is designed for that speed, but that’s screaming. any way to pull back on the rpm? It’s a single power lever, right?

If the SR20 power lever behaves like the SR22 one, …………………….

Lance, at first I thought your post was in reference to the power lever snapping off in the operators hand, but now I see your train of thought

My turbonormalized Cardinal RG does 165 knots at 8.9GPH at 17,500'. At FL 210 its 173 knots at 8.9GPH. Rich of peak, 11.9 GPH, its 10 knots faster. I'm not sure that the SR20 has a bigger cabin than the Cardinal. The Cardinal is 48" wide at the shoulders.
BTW, I have cruised at FL250, but at that altitude boot strapping can be a factor to deal with.

Turbocharging is cheating.

My turbo charged twin comanche does 185 knots at 17,500 on 16 gallons/hr total (8 per side)

Impressive. Almost as good as my 50 year old 177rg. Unless it is one of the later SR20’s my rg would have a higher useful load. As previously noted the Cardinal is certainly easier to get in and out of.

We haven’t really come far have we.

189KTAS at 13.8GPH in my DA62. Was stuck down low at the moment and throttled back some. So not as impressive as the singles at 15.75 miles per gallon, but knocks the socks off most twins.

If the SR20 power lever behaves like the SR22 one, you can get to WOT before the prop governor goes to max RPM. I don't recall what the lowest RPM you can get with WOT is but I think it's either 2300 or 2400.

In my 2002 SR20 I can reduce RPM to 2530 before manifold pressure begins to fall.
Cabin width is 49” vs 48” of the 177RG.
