There was one guy who downed 5 P-51s in one day. 9 total, and almost 35o more. Mostly with a BF109g. But he said the Fw190d was the best in a fur ball. It could out climb any thing we had, and out run if it needed to disengage.

It could out climb any thing we had, and out run if it needed to disengage. We had multiple guys shoot down 5 or more in a day. And the FW-190D was a late entrant into the war and didn't do much. The P-51H had the same speed and was the fastest piston powered fighter of the war. It too did nothing as it was a late entry as well as the Bearcat and Tigercat.

Bomber B1 B, used to watch them takeoff at night at McConnell in Wichita. Four afterburners rattling the Marriott next to Beech field - awesome!
Fighter P51 D, just something about the sound of that RR Merlin
