Epic is available with a chute.

Jim Diest blazed the parachute trail in the early 50's in Drag Racing and at the Salt flats.
He took surplus cargo chutes and resized them for the load required and then 20 years afterwards started manufacturing specialty chutes which then fostered an Drag Chute Industry still active today.

As for no 'KIT" well just build what you want vectored thrust looking interesting.

Sounds like you need to go to South America an find an old Piper Enforcer, built under license by Embraer in Brazil. Pretty much a P51 airframe with a TPE 331 on its nose, I believe it was pressurized, Piper was hoping to find a place for it in the NATO market.

Like Erwin said, what about the turbine legend? There is supposed to be one getting built in Australia with a big garrett up the front. From what I hear there almost unbreakable. (The aircraft that is...)

You all know what I think of single engine airplanes, and I think I've made myself pretty clear about how I feel about singles. That said, I always wanted to build a homebuilt, and they don't come in pressurized single. I love the Garrett TPE331-10 engine, so I want to use that. I also really want to try some new things like the thermawing anti-ice.

If I build my own from a kit like an Epic, can I put whatever motor and radios I want? Finally, can I stick a chute on the thing? I don't like the idea, but if I can't have a twin, I'd like to have something to bail me out dead stick down to minimums...

You already have a twin and was considering a jet.

From someone that has owned 5 experimentals please consider this advice:

1. Either build one at the factory with their accelerated program or buy one done the way you want it.

2. Don't screw around putting engines in airframes that have not been tested. There is more to go wrong there than you can imagine. Little things going wrong can make big problems.

3. Buy what is proven.

4. If you can't do 1-3 keep the plane you have and enjoy living a little longer.

Isn't the why part obvious? SETP with those performance numbers for less than $1M?

Incorrect post, my bad. Evolution, not Epic.

How long till the Cirrus Jet comes out? Are they still working on it? Seems like it is the perfect answer.

My "inside source" says they'll deliver a few Cirrus Jets by the end of the year.

So I checked a bunch of these out, and it looks to me like none of them can be had or operated as cost efficiently as what I've already got.

Oh well.

I guess this answers "why":

http://www.aopa.org/News-and-Video/All- ... ily-rocket

"Why"

Is why would Mr. Taylor spend so much money and time building an airplane with one motor, that burns more fuel at lower altitudes than a 700/702 and isn't much faster?

Note: the numbers in the article are for a 601P, not a 700.

Exactly,

You buy an Evolution to have a new airplane with superior avionics and an airframe that requires nearly zero maintenance between annuals and when it does you get the part overnight at a reasonable price. You are not dealing with a 30-40 year old airframe that leaks fuel and hydraulic fluid and has parts that are made from unobtanium; however, you do not operate much cheaper and you lose the 2nd engine. Mounting a single turbine on the front of an old airframe is not ideal IMO.

I think I told you that on page 1.
