I've definitely flown my plane to McCall for groceries. The grocery store is right next to the airfield. Avoided the 20 mile drive around the lake. I'll also say it was pretty much a novelty act and just wanted to do it for fun.
Mike you need a helicopter up there in ID. No need for airfields, there's empty lots next to everything. Has great STOL characteristics.

Rocky I think we need to discuss this further, perhaps over bugling elk. I did get to fly a bell 407 a month ago.......under extreme supervision. Fun times. Mike.

Every time I hear of Icon, I think of Seawind. http://www.seawind.netNow, that's an aircraft with Bonanza capabilities which can land on water! If the money that went into Icon went to Seawind instead, we'd have a serious, practical certified aircraft instead of a toy.

Latest price for the Seawind is $450K US. Even though it's considerably faster and has more capacity it's still a chunk of change. How about this Helicopter: Pontoons are available too. I have a friend importing this into North America with deliveries hopefully next year. Price is supposed to be around $250K http://www.skthelicopters.ch/pagina.php?cod=20

Yeah, it's a chunk of change, but it can the the only plane you own. I can't imagine owning just an Icon. Besides, $450K is a lot better than $750K for a new Cirrus.

There is no new helicopter even close to that. Even a Mickey Mouse R44 is over $400,000. 'Darn nice' helicopters start in the 7 figures.

Theodore,
A "Mickey Mouse" R44 has 4 seats and cruises faster than the Icon. There is no comparison between the two. A new R22 is the price of an Icon and will fly as fast, carry as much weight, and has the same range. They are both toys.
A "very nice" used Enstrom 280FX can be had for $200k or so. You can also buy some very nice 500 series MDs used in the $250-$350k range. Turbine power, 4 seats, and the ability to go anywhere.
The Icon is a clown water plane. It is a neat toy, but even at $189k it is way overpriced.
