He says he's buying groceries 2-3 times a week because he likes fresh milk and produce. He will use the A5 as a "grocery-getter" so there you go, a real world mission. Agreed, that's how I get my stone crabs. Only way to Everglades City is to fly there. Driving takes too long.

I bet the A5 takes as long, considering wing folding, refueling, preflight, and the walk from the beach to the store. The A5 doesn't have to have a practical reason to exist, it was never about that. I hope the Icon is a big hit I like flying. But its not about cost its that most folks just don't like flying enough to learn how to do it. I don't even bother to try to talk guys into flying anymore because in about 5 minutes I can tell if they have the personality to go forward with it.
A guy can buy a safe ultralight and there are many for a low entry price into aviation but they don't because, you fill in the blank.
A guy can buy a used plane for a low cost into aviation but those planes are just sitting going derelict because, you fill in the blank.
A guy can buy a brand new plane but those planes are not selling very well ( compared to 1970's levels ) because, you fill in the blank.
A guy can get a helicopter that new or used but they don't, you fill in the blank.
Theses new planes get a lot of people to sign up for delivery because those folks like to tell others that they have one on order, it sounds great at the cocktail party but they have no interest is getting delivery on one and figure they will just sell their slot or get the refund. When the time gets near for them to get one, if the business stays around that long, they bail because they have already played the adventurer routine with the peers and that makes it worth it.

That means absolutely nothing. When Cessna offered me an early M2, they were willing to cut me a better deal to let them retain use of the aircraft for several months for customer demonstrations. I received the same offer from HondaJet. It's the industry norm, and it's not a big deal.

Although, I'm not sure how a company that has not delivered a product can have a "norm. Kevin

Yes but 9 years and $100M to certify an LSA? I tough these LSA were suppose to be easy and cheap to certify? Whats the point they could have certified a real airplane with real useful load that you could fly somewere with and not just a toy. Username Protected wrote: That means absolutely nothing. The question is not whether Paul gets mad, the question is why Icon feels the need to exclude him, one of the few trustworthy and honest aviation reporters left. Mike C.
While I like reading "Paul's" comments, he does seem like a person with an OVERTLY pessimistic outlook on things in life.
If I had the choice of a positive outlook reporter or someone who takes joy in breaking my balls, I certainly know which I would prefer to deal with.
Report the news but please do not make the news you want reported. Everyone is looking for a crack in the armor and Paul does seem like the type that concentrates more on the cracks than the architecture.

I've definitely flown my plane to McCall for groceries. The grocery store is right next to the airfield. Avoided the 20 mile drive around the lake. I'll also say it was pretty much a novelty act and just wanted to do it for fun.
