What makes this place great, and for that matter our country is that we can have our own opinions and buy whatever we prefer. I have never flown in a Cirrus, as it is currently produced its not an option for my next plane - I want six seats and /or weight carrying ability.

I'm sure there were those that defended typewriters for a long time after they were obsolete. I enjoy the leading edge of technology, it just has to fit my budget/mission/preferences. I'm taking a written test that will include questions on ADF navigation next week....I've trained in 3 different planes none of which had an ADF unit.... Sometimes the world passes us by....

Cirrus makes a cool product. Cessna has tried to buy its way into the same type of technology. Piper has some interesting offerings. Beech went upmarket in jets. Now they need to catch up if they can.

So saying Cirrus is the "future" of GA ignores the fact that 90% of the GA population can't afford to buy them or maintain them.

Cirrus isn't trying to attract "The GA Population". They're trying to attract the guy flying first class sitting at Atlanta airport right now miserable being treated like a number.

I was that guy. I never "dreamed of flight". I got sick of dealing with the BS. I knew I could afford an airplane so I went and did it.

When Cirrus launches a $700K airplane that flies itself and doesn't need a pilot......... They will sell a million of them. That's the goal at Cirrus.

Good Point!

Even charter can be a real PITA. You're still on other peoples schedule. You have to pay for that dead leg. You can't just leave and go somewhere else on a whim.

Everyone wants their own airplane, sitting at the airport waiting on them to leave.

Then, instead of the TSA strip-and-grope, passengers go to the FBO/Leasing office to board the prepared airplane and ride the highway in the sky to their destination, discussing business along the way. With 4 or more in the Cirrus, the cost could easily be comparable to 4 seats on Southwest.

On the pilot side, a room full of drone controllers. One pilot controls multiple aircraft, as only the takeoff and landing -- and maybe not even that -- require actual piloting.

Not hard to imagine, but it doesn't sound like much fun.

It sounds like great fun to the poor bastard and his family getting groped by TSA and eating airport food.

Shooting from the lip!

Actually, honest opinions that tend to be well thought out and that don’t necessarily agree with others perceptions, presented in a non-sugarcoated manor with a slight air of superiority.

In other words, makes for great discussions!

There are many, many people who could afford a $700K robo-cirrus with the right incentives.

They may not sell millions, but 1000/year would certainly be viable. That's one per 300,000 people or the Atlanta metro area absorbing 20 per year. This is something the merely well off could afford as opposed to the wealthy.

Did you throw your oven away when you bought a microwave? How does your Thanksgiving turkey taste microwaved? Is it possible there may be room for both?

And they still make buggy whips too.
