it's pretty hard to break these things- but the seller should bear that risk
Repair estimates OTOH are quite easily broken and frequently with X multiples of round numbers.

Remember once they crack the can open anything found wrong has to be fixed- even that unrelated to any “event”.

I’ve recently seen this bonus repair add up to nearly $200K!
Not to mention required updates to the internals that Pratt asks for and only sometimes pays for. I say required and that may not always be true but to keep your OH hours or extend them they "make" you comply. On a single I don't think there is much option but to keep up to date on these. Good hunting

We are taking delivery of a 2020 M350 in a few weeks. Rare experience to pick your own paint scheme, color, etc. and likely once in a lifetime.

Will post separately comparing/contrasting to our 96 Saratoga, which has served us well since 2016.

Stay tuned...
Dave

Congrats. I think you will really like this aircraft. I had the chance to borrow one when my M600 was in the shop. I owned a couple of piston M-class aircraft, and the M350 is a nice evolution from the Mirage. It is certainly at the top of the piston food chain, and if you don't look at the ASI or VSI, your passengers really wouldn't be able to tell whether they were in an M350, TBM or M-turbine. Does almost everything the SETP's do, just a little slower. Very technologically advanced with the Nxi and the excellent integration. Love the Saratoga, but you are jumping into a whole different league. Enjoy. :peace:

David,
If you could please share approx price so readers can compare to used M class turboprops.
Best,
Tom

There are a few 2018-2020 used ones for sale and the lowest ask that I have seen has been 1.1 M and the highest is around 1.35 M.The fly for 3 years free has real value and when I calculated all of the items I estimated that it was worth 100K.

Can a Malibu/Mirage/M350 operate safely out of a 2,800’ strip at gross weight?

Paved, no major obstructions at either end.

Or would it be advisable to utilize less than full fuel?

I had a 310hp malibu based at KCPS. Would occasionally operate off of 5/23 and would generally be at least eyes level passing the control tower on takeoff.

Absolute max gross would be towards the limit but doable

You’d need to learn at lighter weights for that length

PA46 310 will operate out of a 2800 foot strip at gross (sea level). Expect to use close to 1900 feet with flaps 20 (POH Numbers).

I use a 3000 foot strip on a regular basis (not at gross) with my pa46, usually lifting off at about 1500 feet with flaps 10' lift off at 72kts (slowly at gross) . Add 1000 feet to this for a 50' obstacle

Landing is easy for that length, speed control is essential. Coming from a Bonanza I felt like I was flying a glider on my first few landings.

Thank you, gentlemen.

The airport I’m considering is at 674’ MSL, the 2,800’ runway has a 0.7% down slope into the prevailing wind with no departure obstacles.

If I needed to perform a max gross take-off I could easily use a nearby field is necessary.

Regards,

Jim

I would think the shortest takeoffs in the M-piston line would be with a Malibu w/ the 550 conversion and 4-blade prop.

What is the 550 conversion rated at power wise? Isn't the Lycoming in the mirage 350HP? Is there a noticeable difference in power/speed between the continental malibus and the Lycoming mirages?

I have a 1995 mirage (350hp).

For the first year, I wouldn’t plan on doing less than 3000’ in the summer.

My best performance so far was 1800’ take off with 20° flaps in the winter (the gear warning will be sounding at that flap setting after lift off - so warn the passengers). Same flight had a 1500’ landing. Density altitude was around 0’.

The nose gear on these planes swivels 90° and you want to gently set that down. Failure to comply results in a nose gear failure. Wouldn’t recommend grass or unpaved runways either.

The Mirage has more power to weight than the Malibu. Thus has a shorter take off distance. Probably better than that with the Hartzell scimitar. No wind, sea level, ISA take off ground roll will be between 1500 and 1600 feet. That is using short field technique with 20 degrees of flaps.
