Don't ever think flight following will keep you out of an airspace. I bumbled into Orlando Class B a few weeks ago on FF. They never said a word. Luckily I got away with it and filed a NASA just to be sure, but no one gave me a heads up.

Just to clarify, I'm sure you know you cannot "bust" an MOA.

True, I typed TFR... then remembered Crandall has to deal with MOA's more than TFR's. Should have changed the verbiage. The penalty for entering a MOA down there is to get buzzed by a couple of Beechjets.

MOA's go into the Flight Levels.

I was referring to the fact that if your talking to someone you should be advised of them and you can find out if they are really active or not. I've never had a controller say you can go through... but I did have one say there didn't seem to be a lot going on... we cut the corner... got buzzed by two Beechjets.

Flying VFR is way too much work for me. Your telling me you fly from Atlanta to Aspen VFR at 16500? Really? Why? Username Protected wrote: Controllers don't always advise of such things. You need to ask if certain restricted areas or MOAs are hot. Sometimes they'll offer it without asking.
If I'm flying without talking to anyone, I'll just fly around Restricted areas. It's rare they're in my way on my regular routes though. I can fly Atlanta to Aspen and not hit 1. There are a couple North of Orlando I go around when flying to Miami. It's just not a factor.

I'd be more surprised if JC flies Aspen to Atlanta at 17500, given the tailwinds you can get higher up.

Separating traffic is really a challenge for ATC and too many cowboys flying fast planes without communicating to anyone would cause new rules that would restrict us more. I now think it is foolish and selfish to fly without at least flight following in busy areas. The small penalty in flight time is worth it in the long run IMHO. Bizarre post. Thank god you’re not in charge. Ha

I don't think it's bizarre at all. This is the only country in the world were you can go and fly around VFR and not talk to anyone. It isn't unreasonable at all to think that if two turbine aircraft have a midair and both were operating VFR we could lose that option.
