Mike, What do you think of the Sierra program where they are going to put Honda engines on a C525 air-frame?
Also what's the story behind the picture of you and the Eclipse?

In the two wire I trust. The F-8 gave me a certain familiarity with the bolter pattern. Added to the level of humbility.

I figured then that he really wanted to be a jet pilot. In this thread, we found out he does. I'm okay with that--he finally saw the light . Good for him. Ken

The V is the best value legacy citation line. The Ultra is even better airplane. The bad news is the Phase V inspection which cost you 100k every 1200 hours or 36 calendar months! The -5 pratts are a tremendous improvement over the -4s. The single pilot program is 9k a year and five days. They leave no stone unturned. 4 days of training followed up by the full type check ride all single pilot of course. Just suck it if you want to fly by yourself. No Sniveling!

The 525 are all Williams, so the advantage in fuel specifics of the Honda are not hugely advantageous. 525s are also relatively new, have high hull values, so owners won't be needing new engines soon, and will be reluctant to invest in this upgrade and its risk. It would be far more lucrative to put Honda on 550, S550, 560, etc. They would benefit a lot from it. In any case, the Honda reengine program is many years from fruition. Mike C.

Flying E-2s, with no tanking ability you had the upside of fairly responsive power, but attached to an unwieldy contraption.
Had to stop. No tanker.

Take a late 1990's CJ that needs refurbishment and has run out Williams engines that were not on an engine program. Sierra will do to them like they have done over the years with the 500/550's and give them glass panels, new P&I, new engines and they will be better then new.
This will set Sierra up for the next 25 years in refurbishing CJ/CJ1/CJ2. Sierra can't continue to base their business for the future on the shrinking fleet of 1970/1980 vintage Citations.
Over the next 10 years more CJs will fall into Sierras target market. I think it is a good long term business plan investing in their future.
The risk is the performance and reliability of the GE-Honda HF120 engine. GE has lots of turbine engine experience and reduces the risk.
Note that GE Honda has flown the HF120 on a CJ1 http://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/aviation-international-news/2010-01-28/approval-testing-continues-hf120-turbofan. Sierra is likely building off of that experience and likely has lots of data about the performance they can expect. Sierra may be dealing with more of a known quantity then you suspect. And then Sierra needs to get the CJ HF120 certified with the FAA and they have lots of experience with that.
All that does not sound like a bad business decision by Sierra.
