In Scottsdale you can land off airport within city limits.
In Marquette, where no laws exist, I pick my spots, and notify the police chief. So far that has has worked. Landed in the hood a few times, along the shoreline and in a field next to a popular ice cream store.
I would agree with MT that people don’t like things they don’t understand. I don’t think it is jealousy as much as it is ignorance.

I have taken many of my neighbours and their kids up for a ride, almost all of them their first time in a helicopter. When a "noise" brings back good memories it goes a long way to avoid complaints.
