Cool! Love those Connies!

I once saw a show on the Constellation (the old Wings or something) and they said the reason they ended up with 3 tails vice the original 2 was that with two tails they had to be taller and the prototype wouldn't fit in the existing hangar. So they kept the same vertical surface area by making 3 smaller vertical stabs! Pretty cool!

Great plane! MacArthur's Connie is parked at Valle airport, AZ and on display. A great piece of aviation history.

Returning from my two year Air Force assignment in Japan in 1957 my ride was in a Super Connie. It sure beat the hell out of the nineteen day crossing going over on a troop carrier :dancing:

Connie was sitting outside at the Airline History Museum at MKC last week. I stopped by twice to just sit in my car and stare at her. There's just something about that plane. :bow:

I have fond memories (dim) of flying on one. Flying was much different then. I wonder what it would cost to fly commercially in that manner and style again? I wonder when the stewardesses who worked on those lovely planes will retire?
