So I'm flying along the S. Florida coast today on my way to Nassau. I hear a Miami controller talking to a Cirrus that's flying along in the 20's.

The Cirrus pilot says "upon reaching 18,000' in our descent we'd like to pick up the XXX arrival and go blah, blah into PBI".

Controller says "OK, no problem but the XXX Arrival is for turbojet airplanes. You need to do arrival XXX for pistons blah, blah".

Cirrus pilot says "Ma'am, we are a propjet so we'll take the XXX arrival"

Controller says "OK".

That's what I heard. Maybe the new Cirrus Jet? But that doesn't have a prop.

Interesting. I've not seen or heard of a turboprop bolted on to a Cirrus, but I suppose it's possible. Maybe the guy was a TN and figured the little spinning turbo machinery counted.

I thought it strange he used the term "propjet". Not sure why.

Maybe the controller said the arrival was for "jets" and the pilot said "we are a propjet". But he definitely used the term "propjet".

I don't remember the N#.

He didn't say "propjet" he said "jetprop". That's why it's sticking in my head.

Jason, if he was at or above 18,000, should be an IFR flight plan, you may be able to get the N# off flightaware.com.
Try that,

Non certified aircraft would use "experimental NXXX" even the Cirrus jet uses "Experimental N280CJ". Maybe you were at 17,500 again.

HAHAH! As a matter of fact, I was at 17,500'! But, I was wearing O2 this time.

It was a Cirrus but I don't remember if he said "experimental".

Jason-

They were just testing the aircraft that will put you back in a Cirrus. Won't be long before you'll be over on the Cirrus boards talking about blowing past one of those fuel guzzling, less safe, maintenance hog Barons. :D

Jason, you really do need to get the Pulse/Ox thingy.

Avoiding this may cause some to put you in the "It can't happen to me" catagory.

Just sayin.

I was visiting my folks in Hot Springs, AR (KHOT) and I saw a guy flying what looked like a Cirrus TurboProp. Jet engine (burns kerosene at least) and had a four bladed prop. I can't swear that it was a Cirrus, but if it wasn't, it was real close in looks. He got out and jumped into a twin that he was being paid to ferry. The turbo prop sure was fast tho in the pattern (and of course he was hot dogging).
