If anyone was wondering what an ADG looks like...

The ADG version in the older Challengers was louder. This one isn't too bad. I wore my A20 instead of my ProFlight headset which also helped.

Are you seriously power crippled with that as last resort? Airspeed / icing limits? The ADG generator puts out half the current compared to the engine and APU driven generators so you are down to the AC essential buss only which drives the DC essential buss. Unlike some ADGs there’s no hydraulic pump on this one as it relies on one of the electric hydraulic pumps and subsequently only one of the three hydraulic systems will work. I wouldn’t say you are seriously crippled. The one hydraulic system that’s powered is the largest, so you don’t lose much there. You still get normal gear extension. All the anti-ice works except you will only get the pilots left side window. Naturally the ADG impeller has no anti-ice so you’d be in trouble there. Probably the biggest impact is the loss of autopilot and all of the right side radios, screens, and instruments. The older ADG had airspeed limits, but this one does not. IIRC this one still does flaps while the older one didn’t, but we didn’t test that on the drop.

I've done a few of those myself as well. I can't imagine the noise it would make if you dropped it at Vmo.

The RPM has to be the same at any speed so I wouldn't expect the prop noise to change much. Or is most of the noise coming from having the door open?

I would imagine a lot of wind noise from the door open for sure, and I imagine the initial deployment would be pretty violent.
Either way, not something that I have to worry about anymore! Can't say I miss the 605....

Like if you have a bad day and it is used for say 45 minutes to get back to pavement do you just tuck it back in and call it good while fixing the other issues?
Or does it require some painfully expensive overhaul at opportunistic times?
T My recollection is it takes special tooling to restow it, and maybe that also includes some maint due to the use. This is for the 601 at least, not sure about the Globals.

T NDT before stowing and it’s stowed via a hand pump in the nose bay.

For the 605 all the special tooling it takes is a small socket wrench. I'm pretty sure it was the same for the 601, but it's been a long time since I've done an ADG drop in one.
