It would be quite an imposing presence at the dock, for sure.
As far as I know, that idea has at least been on the drawing board for years, but sounds like they'll actually build and deploy some this time.

I read the thread title, was sure it was a typo but was curious enough about the performance of either a C120 or C140 on floats without a power upgrade to click the link. Not a typo! If I could pick one up cheap it would be worth pursuing the rare MES rating!

The C-130 is the most modified, longest running production aircraft in the world.

I just wish this one had Fulton yokes on it!

I think it is the snatch system to pick up passengers as displayed in the video.

The “Yokes” are the extension arms to capture the Recovery lift line attached to the balloon on one end and the “package” (men or cargo) on the other.

Their only function is to guide the lift line to the sky anchor located at the center of the yokes. The sky anchor has a pin protruding forward so when the lift line is captured, it pushes the pin and engages the sky anchor turning it 2 3/4 turns to secure the lift line.

They look like this:

When I was flying C-130s they showed us videos of the "Fulton Recovery System." Very impressive, and I give a lot of credit to the guys who demonstrated that.

I remember seeing a guy sitting on the ground with the balloon attached to his harness floating above him. The Herc captures the line below the balloon and the guy is instantly elevated up to the airplane and is hauled aboard from the cargo door and ramp.

No thanks. I always preferred sitting up front.

I wonder how many Gs the guy was subjected to?

"Instantly elevated" is a diplomatic term for "seriously yanked".

Matt, just give me half the money you would spend on the 130 multi-engine sea plane rating and I'll get you the rating. :D

The Wipline 200,000. I’m sure that would be an inexpensive bolt on.

More on the Fulton system and other things:

They were picking up as much as 1500 lbs. The snatch is pretty high G forces.
