When I was a little takka, my father and 2 of his mates bought a Mosquito. Turns out it was a PR-XVI, which is a high altitude photo reconnaisance plane. My father did some research, and managed to find the pilot and navigator pair who flew it the most. We invited them to come and see the plane again. It was amazing to meet them. It was sobering to watch them as we walked into the shed to see it again. They spent a long time just standing there looking at this plane (which at this time was in pieces).

They later formed the Mosquito Association http://www.aussiemossie.asn.au/
They have since passed on, but it was a privilege to have met them. One story they told was that on one of the longer missions, they had complete their run and were headed back when they saw something a bit odd. The navigator pulled out his brownie box camera and took a few snaps. Turns out they were the most important images of the flight - taken on the cheapie camera rather than the high spec cameras in the belly of the plane.

Alone and unarmed to Berlin.

There's guts, and then there's guts. But that's guts.
