$2,000-4,000/hr total operating cost would not surprise me in the least.

Wow, why bother selling it for $125K then? Seems they'd be happy to just give it away to a loving home.

$1000/hr would catch it with volunteer labor... And worth every penny!!!

Ask Stan Musick, or Tom Gresham. They stole a "DC-3" and ground-looped it during take-off.

(Anyone want the whole story?)

Walt,

Thanks to the APS class and that wonderful lunch we had on arrival day, I got to hear the whole thing from you and "the thief". Laughed my &$$ off!

That's how the DC-3 was equipped that I got to "fly" to Mexico when I was 9 or 10. A very famous fellow owned this as his personal transport. He invited my dad (who brought me along) to fly down with him and some fellows who looked a lot like co-stars for the Sopranos, and their "girlfriends." As soon as it was wheels up out of Santa Monica, the bar was open and the girlfriends started getting very friendly with everyone. I was quickly whisked to the front cockpit where I stayed for the remainder of the flight. In hindsight, while I had a blast flying down to Mexico in the cockpit, if I had been 10 years older I think I would have had a lot more fun in the back...

Sounds like something that will send you to the poor house very quickly. It would also be like driving the farm grain truck instead of the family sedan. No thanks.

The poor house comment is probably fair, but as for flying it.... The Gooney Bird is one of the most loved airplanes of all time and with good reason.... She is a delightful airplane to fly when flown well, and a evil bitch if you try to wrestle with her.....
