Last week I got a visit from a aircraft design engineer. Since I design and build carbon fiber high performance airplanes he wanted my input as well as investment.
His design was to be a small composite very efficient, high speed twin kit. It is to be carbon fiber and will require the builder to work at the factory to get most of the work done in a very short time.
I questioned him about numerous aspects and he seemed to be very well prepared and knowledgeable. I will not invest in his project and have absolutely no connection. The completed price was projected to be very low. So low, that I would question that estimate along with some of his performance numbers.
Almost every designer comes up with an empty weight that is far below the actual completed weight. That includes Boeing and Airbus. My experience is to add 15% to my calculated weight.
Take a look at the Airbus 380 and their original calculated weight and what it really weighs!
If anyone is interested I will try and find the contact info for this project.

I would love to see a composite or new generation piston or light turbine twin. I used to pride myself on never having flown an airplane younger than me but as I contemplate moving up to a pressurized twin I would love to have the option of something that incorporated modern design, ergonomics and power plants.

I have been wondering why somebody (HBC) doesn't buy the A500 and slap a couple of the new Rollls Royce small turbines on it in place of the continentals, seems like an extra 100hp an engine would be just what the doctor ordered for that design. Seems like it could perform with the single engine turbines for not much increase in the cost of operation. Twin engine redundancy without VMC issue would be a huge selling point to this segment of the market.

As for law school, well. I went to law school and am licensed but don't practice law. I went in my late 20s without any intention of practicing, I thought it would be a good education. It was but the same education can be had in 3 mos of focused effort with 1 AMU worth of video courses from barbri. Unless you are going to practice getting the diploma and the license is probably a colossal waste of 3 years and 150 amus. You might talk to a few practicing attorneys before deciding to make a career out of it. Most of my law school friends are finding the legal market very tough right now, in fact the vast majority of my law school class was unemployed a year after graduation and we gradauted from a top ten law school. It's not what it was 5 years ago.
