Just saw the article in this months AOPA journal. Apparently Extra noticed that most of his US buyers didn't actually buy the plane for aerobatics but rather trick them out with a IFR panel and just use it as general purpose fun plane. He is now coming out with a 'tourer' version that does away with the symmetric wing using a wing he built for a Red Bull racer. It has a little luggage compartment and a complete Aspen/430W IFR panel. Engine is a AEIO 580 giving it a cruise of 190kts. Still fully aerobatic of course up to 10G :bugeye: .

Any takers ? I bet it fits into the corner of a 45ft hangar together with a Bo or Baron.

N.B. that as of now, the Extra 300 series is limited to day/VFR by type certificate, regardless of what owners put in the panel.

I haven't flown the LT model yet, but I wouldn't want to fly any of the 300 series in the clouds (and night really isn't an option--no panel/instrument lights, for example).

At this point yes. The US distributor is poking them to get it certified. That may require major changes due to the composite skins.

On the upside, if you fall out of a cloud upside down, it's really not a big deal ;) .

If I believe Dave Hirschmans article, the roll rate has been reduced to 270deg/sec and overall the plane is more stable than the symmetric profile Extras.
