Does it seem like that 172 made it a long way to anyone else?

What is the range of a 172? I am guessing strong winds pushed him along.

If he was trying to kill himself gravity could have done him a big favor - rather than an off field landing.

172 can do 5 hrs at 120kt at altitude, so 600nm without winds.


I'm sure they didn't refuel, they just alternated if anything. Not that they would burn too much fuel at the slow speeds they were probably doing, trying not to stall while doing laps around the 172

We had very strong northerly winds in IL the last 2 days - he could easily have had a 60 knot tailwind at altitude.

Does anyone think a 172 could dent the Wisconsin State Capitol? Did the evacuees feel pathetic? Does anyone in this country still have a pair?

It cracks me up when our elected officials somehow think they're irreplaceable. Do you think we'd get by if we had to wait a few days to pay our auto registration? Government shutting down for a week would probably revive the economy in itself.

I don't want this guy locked up. I just want him dropped off at the closest fly-in.

We could take care of that whole "suicide thing" for him. No need to crash a perfectly good airplane (even a 172) just unlatch the door and don't forget to release the seatbelt.

I'd be more afraid of a determined ex-girlfriend on foot.
