Given that the Raptor thread is being beaten like a :deadhorse:, I thought it would be appropriate to create this thread and let that Raptor zombie thread die.

I do not know if this is related to the UAS/Drone in the war news, so I did not include that. Edit - After reviewing the ASN article, this does seem to be the light aircraft being produced by the UAS company.

The Veloce Planes website is blocked by my browser on the PC and Phone due to safety issues, and completely down on my malware/scammer Virtual Machine, so I post this picture:

Other users have posted their “helicopter landing test” with UR-PNGB, listed as a ANG LA-50 Patriot UA under the Raptor thread. The landing, posted on 25AUG25, was anything but a helicopter landing or STOL landing and was what appeared to be a stall of the left wing and something between a hard landing and controlled crash while on a short approach. The aircraft didn't seem to have any STOL features and wasn't even using flaps. I could not tell if there was a tail strike or not, but it certainly looked like there could have been. It looks a lot like a poorly copied Cirrus SR-20/22 with some modifications and a different engine. They were trying to land it like a tailwheel with STOL capabilities and are lucky it didn't turn turtle.

They were at Sun 'n Fun and there was a review of the aircraft and kit(s):

This is their homepage on The Face Book:
https://www.facebook.com/veloceplanes

There is an Aviation Safety Network article noting that the aircraft was destroyed in an Ballistic Missile Strike on Hoholiv Aerodrome in Ukraine on the 25th of May.

Just watched his whole promo video on their website about the 600. He was talking it was going to fly May/June, I assume that didn't happen?

He's so confident in the numbers, I now have to know what it actually did ha. Using two automotive based LS V8's.

Did think was kind of cool they have small superchargers on each engine for the cabin pressurization, and then the exhaust turbos for the engines.

Nothing I'm interested in building or purchasing, but these developments are always interesting to watch.

Edit: Just found an updates page on his website, has not flown, looks like still working on wings:

I just love that he has a pitot tube that can predict and cancel out turbulence...

He plans on using a hopped up Rotax clone to make 185 HP.

Somehow the whole thing is going to weigh less than a Cessna 152 and be faster than a Turbo SR22.

This just seems like more snake oil in a flashy package.

I wonder if the kits are being built in the Ukraine or if the technology was exported so that the kits can be manufactured in the USA or Brazil per what you noted above.

I believe that Veloce in UKR had a non-nuclear ballistic missile attack on the airport/aerodrome where they were building these aircraft in Hoholiv several months ago. This appears to be the civilian arm of that Ukrainian UAS company. I wonder if the prototype aircraft were damaged or destroyed. What was noted on ASN was that the ANG Patriot bearing UR-PNGB was.

The Aerovolare engines sound pretty neat, particularly considering their history as a generator engine.

Sounds like they are over here in the states, he made a comment about tariffs not effecting the prices much because most all the work is being done here... So must have started over there with the Patriot, and then when he got involved around a year or so ago moved most of the operations here. Looks like they are doing the work in North Carolina, with hopes to have a few other quick build assist centers around the country.

Why are so many of these wildly over-promising designs, like the Raptor, and the Veloce, canards (double entendre noted)? Perhaps the analytical design software they use gives overly optimistic predictions with less commonly seen layouts. As they refine the design, choosing at each step the rosier path, it leads them farther into fantasy land.

Or perhaps it's what someone noted about the next over-hyped health food fad, that it has to be something unusual because if it's common, everyone will know someone who already tried it, and it didn't work.

yeah its pretty crazy. But lots of tech looks good on paper or in a computer sim.

Imagine wanting a fast larger aircraft that cost $1.8mm and thinking I want that but don't want to spend the $1.8mm so I will build one from scratch? LOL Like that could ever be the cheaper option.

These guys must not have ever built or driven a custom hot rod or one off build of anything mechanical. An airplane is the last one off prototype vehicle I would want.

Mike

He's completely convinced horsepower determines speed, so if he's a bit lighter, see speed X+, said that repeatedly over the video. The most intriguing part to me is the v600 to v800 mod they offer.... it goes from the 600 having typical two flying surfaces (wing and tail) to the 800 with a "fuselage plug" to lengthen it that now also gets a front canard or "lifting surface" with minor tail angle changes he said. He describes it as we now have three lifting surfaces instead of the tail fighting the wing in the video. Guess that means freeee speed baby, why has no one else done this before?

Look forward to all the flight tests!

That's exactly the question they should be seriously asking. But they aren't.
