How did they navigate over the vast distances they flew pre GPS?
Was it just dead reckoning supplemented by ADF and VOR, celestial navigation, or did LORAN extend over the target areas, presumably mostly the USSR?

Inertial Nav and celestial nav I always wondered how that could see the stars in daylight, then I finally found that the sensor worked in the UV spectrum which can see stars just fine in daylight. One of the things they did just before takeoff was ensure that they had a star lock.
