I'm pretty sure I watched you land at SGU, looked like a pretty sporty with the cross wind.

Haha yes that was sporty. Didn’t look like it was going to be that bad then I had to wake up and fly that thing.

I said to my son dang that was more sporty than I expected. The gust from the west on that field can catch you off guard.

Funny thing is after we landed I thought i wish I could watch that landing on video. I think all airports should have live cameras on each end that we can replay. I always want to see my ugly ones. That’s a service I would pay for.

Reminds me of the Malibu owner group video from their annual meeting that shows all
Of them landing. That was pretty entertaining to watch.

I’ve got a friend who is looking for a pilot to fly himself and two family members in a C501 this Friday 4/25 from Arizona to South Carolina and return on 4/28 back to Arizona. He’s offering $800 per day + hotel + $80 per diem.

If you’re interested or know anybody who is, please send a PM.

When you say "in a C501", I'm assuming it is in a C501 owned by your friend?

Good luck with that. Rarely works when a client sets the rate.

Going rate for most of the country is around 1500/day for single pilot work in Citations. Doesn’t really matter if it’s a 501 or Encore, a day is day.

You must be hanging out on the contract pilot Facebook group where every pilot makes $2000k a day and driving super cars. LOL. At least that’s what they say.

We have pilots making $800-1000 per day flying CE-500 in Utah. That’s coming from the guy that pays them, not the pilots that like to brag.

Just to be clear he’s paying $800 per day for all of the days, including the non-flying days. $3200 for a long weekend is not bad at all.

Mike, I don't think Robert was bragging at all. He hires out as a contract pilot for Citations and is pretty in touch with going rate. I don't doubt your experience being able to hire as your wrote, but in several larger markets those numbers are unrealistic.

I was being sarcastic. If you follow the FB groups every pilot is making over $1500 a day and they attack anyone charging less. It’s pretty entertaining.

Not only is each market different but there are guys that love to fly private as a side gig and don’t need to charge a lot.

We had someone charging $600 a day. A buddy has a PC-12 pilot that’s retired that flys for $500 a day.

So it’s a big range. Just funny whenever someone says good luck or claims that anyone charging a lower rate is a dangerous pilot.

If you're going someplace nice/warm and I can bring my wife; I sometimes fly for free. But yes, the market is all over the place.

made me chuckle
I got a call back in February from someone saying their pilot was sick and could I do a saturday-sunday trip in their B200? I asked where? Sidney Nebraska. Did I mention this was in February? I said sorry but you can't afford me.

Two things to note over the past threads.

1 - Throw something up on Job Talk as well. You were smart to check here first as there are some professional BT brothers/sisters with recency and the type that might enjoy a nice vacation. (and get yelled at by the paid pro pilots)

2 - If you look at the Professional Pilot Network or CrewBlast it's pretty eye watering.
https://www.theprofessionalpilotnetwork ... -day-rates
https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news ... -crewblast

SP contract pilot day rate for a Citation here in DC metro varies between $500 + expenses (rumor is that dude has a felony arrest and conviction but kept his ATP and type ratings) to up to $2000. Going rate is certainly eye watering and between $1000 or $1500 is not unheard of up here. Not sure about Arizona or SC nowadays.

I am not a fan of saying there is a minimum or maximum rate or scream at another pilot, lest the Fine Aviation Administration and their armed friends pimp slap me with the price fixing gauntlet. Granted, I haven't used a chartered aircraft in several years and just see the occasional posting on the board in the IAD/HEF/JYO FBOs. If they send non-pilot ASIs, who allegedly aren't familiar with what flaps are used for, after backcountry pilots who knows what else they will do.

I used to place contract pilots years ago before the internet really took off after Y2K. Some of these rates nowadays are eye watering!

Your insurance had no FOD coverage clause?

And I do like the peace of mind that I won’t have a bad $500k day.

The list of exclusions in the TAP contract is long, so that is still a possibility depending on exactly what the issue is. For example, hot starts are not covered. Also "any other cause not within the control of Williams", which is a pretty broad exclusion. 525 owners report a lot of starter generator bearing failures which have broken other engine parts due to the resulting vibrations, and Williams doesn't cover those events.

If you put the TAP program payments into an SP500 ETF instead of sending them to Williams, it adds up to a pretty tidy sum pretty quickly. I used to think there was no viable option other than to be on the program since Williams charges more than the program costs to due off program engine work, but the investment gains might actually be better.
