Repairs based on the annual inspection on the 340 are dragging on longer than I'd like, and I'm getting antsy to fly, so today I started a transition course for a group of SR22s that I can rent locally. It was surprisingly emotional for me to start studying the POH for the Cirrus, as if I was giving up on my plane. I did my first flight in the SR22 today. The sketchiest part is getting used to taxiing without nose wheel steering, but I got used to that after a bit.
My wife is not impressed with the idea of the Cirrus. "So it can't take as many people, but it'll take our bikes?" [we ride tandems, they are about 7' long]... No "It's smaller than our plane, but it's faster?"... No "So it's slower, but it's a jet?"... No "But it has two engines, though."... No "Well, then what does it do, that our plane doesn't?"... Well, it has this parachute, if your husband dies you can crash safely. "Why would I care about that? I'm not going to be flying with you anyway 'cause it won't fit my stuff!"

But a 2-3 months between trips / flights is no big deal for her.
Wait till she finds out it isn't pressurized.

Tandems make no sense to me We have plenty of single bikes too. Last I counted, I think 11 between the two of us including 3 tandems: MTB, road, and gravel. The advantage of the tandem is riding together and not having to wait, working as a team. Definitely not for everyone.

We faced the same dilemma moving up from our A36. Turns out that buying a second, S&S coupled tandem that fits in the plane was a lot cheaper than buying a plane big enough to fit an uncoupled tandem.
