I've had the opportunity to fly the UBF 2, UMF 3 and UPF 7 quite a bit over the two weeks. I'd estimate in that period I flew each of them 3-4 times logging 5-8 hours each and at least 15 landings on grass and concrete runways (except the F2 - no grass unfortunately). While I didn't fly them back to back, but serially, they were close enough in time to make some observations:

- The windiest and coldest rear cockpit is the UPF 7. It's a bigger hole and was really chilly at 60 degrees whereas the UBF 2 is the snuggest hole and I was very comfortable taking off in 48 degrees.
- The UPF 7 "feels" bigger though it really isn't. Maybe that's because the upper wing is raised substantially higher than the other two but sitting further back in the fuselage is the main thing.
-The F2 has the lightest feeling to the controls and the F7 the heaviest. This doesn't make a lot of sense given the wings, ailerons and control system are essentially identical. There are linkage differences and a friend who is an engineer thinks dihedral differences add to it.
-I really like Cleveland brakes! Maybe I should say I really don't like the Hayes installation on the F3. I have Hayes brakes on another airplane that work fine but despite every adjustment we can think of the F3 brakes are just scary. I'm taking the plane to Rare Aircraft next weekend to have Cleveland's installed. I've had enough. The brake pedals on my UPF 7 are amazingly easy to use and the design of the pedals the most comfortable. All three planes are different so the point is you can only figure this out while flying.
-The climb performance in the UBF is just amazing! 1500 feet plus per minute compared to a more leisurely 500. Surprisingly the F3 and F7 climb about the same despite the F7 being heavier. It could be the prop (or adjustment). I have a Ham Standard on the F3 and Curtiss Reed on the F7. The HS is a better prop but the CR is the best looking (though not ground adjustable). The CR was the cheapest back in the day which is why Waco put them on the F7 (it was a government contract after all) but they are the most expensive today. Go figure!
-For passengers the F7 is the bomb. Easy to get into, wide seating and deep with tall windscreen. The F2 is the worst - hard to get in and out of, tall seating and low windscreen.

I texted a couple of friends early in the weekend as said "the UPF 7 is my least favorite". In fact I wasn't really "feeling" it at all. But the more I flew it the more I changed my opinion. It needs a small change to the rigging as I'm having to hold the tiniest bit of right stick in cruise which bugs me but that's easily fixed. My favorite is certainly the F3 but that's as much emotional as anything. Every time I fly the F2 I'm surprised by how much I like it. For flying feel its the best I think.
