Here are some photos of the innards of my Hartzell OTU on my E185 Conti engine. I either need an O/H or a new unit. I am in Vegas and LA from 25 Sept to 06 Oct Does anyone know a prop shop in that area that could help? It'd be fantastic if I could collect whilst there

Ottosen Prop has one listed for sale on their website. $5600. Hartzell currently has mine and quoted me $4200 to overhaul. That included replacing the rear centering cone, mounting bolts and oil inlet elbow because I didn’t send those with the OTU.

That was my reaction too. They had originally said a base overhaul was 1100. Almost 4 times that was pretty shocking…

Nate, I met you when you thought you needed a carb. I went home and thought about your problem…1500 max rpm….and thought lack of oil pressure to the prop.
I have an OTU spare that I removed the rings from. Unfortunately I am in Alaska until Nov. but have no use for it since I sold my E series Bonanza

Yeah, I was in denial about it being the OTU as I had that rebuilt 2 years ago. I also had someone telling me that the exhaust was belching black smoke, hence the carb. I’m happy to have bought it from you though! It was a good diagnostic tool, and I know I need a rebuild eventually, so that will help reduce downtime.

Hopefully the rings in the OTU did not slip onto the shaft and spin. And if they did hopefully you have the spin on oil filter on the engine. Those fine metal shavings with play heck on the bearing surfaces otherwise.
