i think the viofo 139 and another model have external audio inputs. They look to be standard audio. I havent purchased the unit, but have seriously thought about it since it looks decent 4k/2k/2k for the 3 cameras. The remote cameras seem to be fairly small.

These cameras likely have a small electret microphone. I'd suggest it's a quick job to pull the camera apart and desolder the mic, then put it on a length of wire.

Username Protected wrote: What’s wrong with using something like a zoom h1 for audio? Just sync it to the video in the editor? I think there is a difference between always recording and having it available vs the "set up" for a flight that you want to record to film/edit/cut later. For the latter - there will be all sorts of gear for audio and video. For the first - I think (and mike can correct for himself) is that we want something that always turns on and records certain things for posterity reasons. It may not be for edit/cut/post later - but just to have a recording of that flight along with audio that you can deconstruct later (whether thats engine readings, settings, vibrations, or whatever) - and thats a minimalist foolproof type of setup - sort of like a car dashcam how it starts recording when the vehicle is turned on. So I want one that records outside (front) and the main panel area every single flight when I start the plane. And it would be nice if audio was also in via aux plug. I dont want to use a zoom h1, sony audio recorder, or something that plugs in to the iphone that I have to start every single time - or remember to start.

Syncing cameras and audio is easy, it’s been done for like 60 years: Attachment: IMG_8707.jpeg For an automated approach, GoPros will auto sync the timeline and supports external mics. Chip-

That only works if all cameras can see the clap board or hand clap.
