Quote: Want to go far off road? Land Rover. Want to go far off road & return? Land Cruiser. Being very observant I just noticed this. I take offense. I had a 1970 Series II 88 Land Rover for some time. It never made it on the highway far enough to get "far off road." We made it off road several times, as in off the side of the highway. And we always made it back. I carried an impressive array of spare parts which usually solved the problem. Other than when the tranny went TU I needed the help from a friendly a$$-whole tow truck driver who only charged me 7 or 8 times what I paid for the truck. But other than that it was loud, steered a little to the right, got terrible gas mileage, uncomfortable as heck, gave us CO poisoning everytime we drove it, leaked oil and tranny fluid like a sieve, the horn chirped sporadically on left turns, when it rained outside it rained inside, and mice ate all the wiring under the "dash." On the good side it leaked so much oil that the underside was essentially corrosion free and I was able to charge the County for re-oiling all the black top roads. And after all that, I'm sorry I sold it. Anyone dumb enough to own an airplane understands this.

And after all that, I'm sorry I sold it. Anyone dumb enough to own an airplane understands this. As someone who just took delivery of a 1965 Series IIA this weekend, I had to laugh out loud. The truck is already marking its territory in the garage leaving puddles of oil under it. The steering is woeful (it doesn’t track straight or center) and every drive is an upper body workout. It’s so loud I can’t hear anyone talking, let alone music or a radio. Lines of cars gather behind me on the road because 50 mph is pushing it. I took it for its safety inspection this morning, and it failed, so I spent some quality time under the frame this afternoon fixing the electrics. It’s probably best described as a tractor with seven seats, but the kids and my wife have fallen for it, and I can’t wait till the next drive!

Funny thing though; those BE-4 upper stage engines apparently aren't yet ready for prime-time. Maybe if whiny Jeff would work on contributing something to the aerospace community rather than the lawyers of the world we might have it flying by now.
