We met a couple at OSH this year while having breakfast at a local coffee shop. We talked about flying in and he asked me what a I flew in. I told him a bonanza. He said I looked like a bonanza kind of guy and he asked me to guess what he flew in. I told him I had no idea so he slapped his belly and proudly said Cessna 182. The four of us got a big laugh. Nice couple. We chatted for quite some time.

Quote: he slapped his belly and proudly said Cessna 182. . ...Isn't that the truth. Legacy design Cessna's & Piper's will carry the weight, and in a broad W&B envelope. Generally speaking, they're not great at anything, but good at a lot of things.

First, I'm admittedly biased. And, everyone has their own preferences. I've owned my Cardinal RG for 42 years. Flown lots of other aircraft, high and low wing. There are two things I love about the Cardinal over any other plane. One, the older I get, the more I appreciate those big doors, the low Cardinal airframe, and no struts to climb over. At 72, I really don't care to climb up onto a wing to get into the cabin. Second, I challenge anyone to take a lady in a long evening dress and high heels out for a flight on a cool evening. I simply open up the passenger door for her, have her place her derriere directly onto the seat, and swing her legs in. No need to remove the high heels, hike up her dress, or climb up on anything. PS: I love the looks of Bonanzas, Barons, Cirrus, TTX, ..... They all serve a great niche.

Big windows you can open up to throw lithium batteries that are made in China as they burn toxic gases that would kill a jet crew. Almost had to toss a DVD player out that started smoking. Used to laugh at battery fire issue until I had it happen to me a few times. Dropped my iPhone off for a swimming lesson. Thing got so hot it could not be touched.

Fabulous airplane and a great shame Cessna did not ditch the utility category for normal category and add a parachute (perception IS reality!) Cirrus = parachute = sales Cessna: Bought Columbia at bankruptcy sale and would not innovate just a tiny bit to keep this great platform alive. Cessna (Piston) = Quitter See my Avitar: COLUMBIA 350 Over Horseshoe Bend at Page Az

Curiously, Cessna spent a metric manure-load of money, re-certifying the aircraft as the TTx. (T240 vs. the COL4) and made all kinds of changes to it, which weirdly, only managed to produce a slight change in fuel capacity, FIKI with TKS, and the G2000, a major interior restyling.
I could easily skip the parachute, but I'd sure like an increase in landing weight.
Honestly, I think Textron's sales issues vs. Cirrus are a lot deeper than having a parachute or not.
But, whatever one's feelings are about it, Cessna/Textron own my type certificate and they did take over and produce them under the Cessna umbrella for 9 model years.
So, it's a Cessna.
