I've noticed that some light aircraft have like the SR22 have started to use tubeless tires. I'm curious about the advantages and disadvantages of this approach.

What do you think?

There are two advantages to tubeless tires that I can think of: 1) They can slip on the rim without damaging the valve, 2) If you get a hole, you can plug it without taking it off the rim or off the airplane.

I have tubeless on the Mits, and early on I had a slow leak. Turned out multiple causes. One was because the O-ring between the wheel halves was crimped, it's a little hard to get perfectly aligned when going back together, another was someone had removed a tire "gorilla style" with a crowbar and scratched up the wheels. Polishing out the scratches helped get past that.

Since then they've been airtight.

But - advantage of tubes is that some of these issues don't cause leakage, you can kind of ignore them.
