Provided that you have a cool $4.8 Million to spare, and like hideous carpet and upholstery wrecking a gorgeous leather and wood interior, this is your baby: https://www.controller.com/listings/air ... glas-md-87It is being sold from Van Nuys, so add a $50k noise abatement fine. Some have recommended paying a few folks to blast rock and roll around the noise sensors 15 minutes on either side of your departure and then request the readings and audio output. Granted, I am not suggesting that because I will never base a plane in California or learn their stupid rules because people encroached on the airport, which was there first WITH radial engines blaring at all hours.

Guess it was optimized for short haul despite this use case with extra tanks. This matches the TCDS, BTW, so not a consequence of any mods. Mike C.

The MD-80 series suffers from having a wing that is just too small. Back when I was on the plane, 97-00ish, before the airspace went to every thousand feet, only FL310-FL330-FL350 was useable for the -80. Mostly 310 & 330. Very rarely were we light enough for FL370 and sometimes got stuck down at FL290, did wonders for the fuel flow and flight plan.

But maybe the underlying systems are just too old for that. Except for the new wing (which would have been key) they did. It was the MD-95 nee McBoglas B717. The underlying systems were just fine. Or the MD90, which did have different wing tips and fans...and 160 seats!
