It has 40 degrees of flaps so as long as the wind isn't too bad it can really come in steep and land short. It is extremely roomy. Gets you warbird parking... I'm still learning about these planes so I may be wrong but I think your friend has an L-19 built by Ector Aircraft. That's pretty cool to have a "new" L-19. BTW, those flaps go to 60 degrees so with the plane parked and the flaps down, they're just about perpendicular to the ground.
The Spitfire we had here had one position to deploy flaps, 85 degrees. All Up or All Down.
They are Air Activated and thats all they could figure out back in the mid/late 1930s.
These newer types like the O-1/L-19 are so modern!

Congrats! I have a couple hundred hours towing gliders in them... One of the most honest airplanes I've flown, and most fun. Respect it and it'll give you awesome landings... Forget to once and think about that pretty blonde at the end of the runway and it'll bite ya quick.  Just a joy to fly - I miss it.
