I've been following SurfAir for the last several years since they developed a social media presence and recently acquired Blaze in Texas. I think the concept is phenomenal. Personally, if a company like this existed in Florida or the Southeastern region of the U.S, I would probably consider joining if the price was right. However, $2k a month for 2-4 flights is bogus.
The problem, like many things in aviation, is that the costs are way too high for the product that you receive. For $2k a month I can have a nice Bo and fly it anywhere I want, when I want. I can also bring along all the baggage and passengers the plane will hold. For us pilots, it's a pretty easy choice as to where we will spend that kind of money.
They acquired Rise in TX. It's all gone now though.
As of today, they are done in TX. They are still trying to work with some ad-hoc contractors to fly some flights, but their own planes aren't flying and the operator responsible for flying for them closed their base because they couldn't pay their bills.
I feel bad for the unlucky ones who spent their money on the Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign, it only covered half of their debts in TX alone.
Surf Air is a pathetic joke. I've seen the operation, and I wouldn't trust them to run a lemonade stand.
