That Mitts is awesome, I love everything about that airplane. My wife asked me last night, "should our next airplane be a MU-2 or an Aerostar"….oh boy…she has no idea what she just started in my little brain.

I am interested in a Lancair IV-P Turbine and would love to talk some owners. I specifically have questions about scheduled and unscheduled engine maintenance on the Walter. I am curious about cost and availability of shops that can work on the engine. I would also love a pilot report on the electro explosive de-ice system on IVs and Evolutions.

I would also love the opportunity to get up close and sit in any IV. I split my time between Fresno and Lake Tahoe so if anyone has a IV nearby I would love to come check it out. send me a PM or call me at 530-570-1849.

I am happy to show you my IV. I really like the piston powered IV but the turbine version is totally foreign for me. I think the turbine is probably grossly overpowered and twitchy but I've never flown one so that's total conjecture on my part. Actually, I don't think I'd go in a ride in a turbine version unless I really knew the guy offering the ride. Knowing what I know about flying the IV, I don't think I would get a turbine version. My main issue with the turbine is the rudder size (maxed out for the piston) and the gross weight/fuel issue. There's simply not enough space to stick enough Jet A in this airframe and even if you figure out where to stick it, the airframe wasn't really designed to be 600lbs heavier than it is.

Just my 2 cents and I'm sure people will say similar things about the IV-piston.

And I’ll add a little......
For a turbine it has a worse accident record than its piston counter part. So worse than a regular iV-P. Now that’s saying something.

As for de-ice. Not familiar with the electro explosive Sounds like you only get to use that once, then done. But the electro expulsive was only installed on a few. The tks is a way better option. You won’t find too many preps on de ice, since getting into icing of anything other than light can become a serious problem quick. And that’s in the deiced planes.
The non deiced ones fly like a streamlined ACME anvil if you’re eating a snow cone inside it. Seriously, great traveling machine, but not an all weather dispatch plane. And have you inquired on insurance? Figure min of 12k for a piston and 30k for a turbine. Plus yearly recurrent, that alone is another $2500 all costs considered. And 12k is a best case guesstimate. That’s why so many run bare.

Beautiful aircraft, very fast, etc .

"Many" very experience pilots have died in these and all were in a awe of the performance, technology, efficiency.

Nice and Easy as you discover the in's and out's.

You realize his new ride is a citation 501sp? He’s had the Lancair for a while now. He’s going thru planes like TS :bugeye:
