do you also happen to know which one has the best safety record? That would be the Piper L-4 Grasshopper. As the saying goes; "Safest plane in the word, it can just barely kill you."
I meant a warbird, not a trainer, warbird.......made for war
I just had to be a twit.... I thought the T-28, one of the reasons I bought one. Big engine so it has lots of get up and go, but also has a nice fat wing with big flaps. And it has a training wheel up front. I'm gonna leave the big hairy chested tail draggers to the real pilots!

Congratulations on getting a really sharp looking plane, and by many accounts, one of the best flying warbirds out there. You can, the question is for how long! I don't plan on ever pushing it that hard, there simply isn't a reason to under normal operations. Another matter to consider with these old engines is even with the proper octane gas, they are simply getting old. Chroming the barrels back to standard might fix the bore, but it doesn't do anything for the decades of stress that has been put on the head. R985's don't pop the heads off from crappy gas, they do it from too many birthdays. Even with reduced power the old girl still goes like stink!
