That is an ambitious milk run. I would not do it without a fuel stop even if range permited. The weather in the Rockies can change at any moment and become nasty.

Last week in Vegas I had a 30 minute debate with the girl behind the counter over what a "GPU" is. <etc> Yeah, I agree that I have that kind of experience a fair amount. I never even ask for a GPU, that's usually a time sink. Anything other than fuel is usually a cautionary flag that it could go awry. Even just fuel can get surprisingly time consuming, as it did to me yesterday. I think many FBOs don't realize they are (or should be) in the "speed business" as you put it. There are a couple that seem to know what they're doing. Flower at KPUB comes to mind as a place where I have had a seriously quick turn, they were fueling many planes at a prodigious rate, dual hose truck with two guys pulled up as soon as I was shut down. (And I got free steaks. Which were worth what I paid for them...  )

Patrick, I always land with an hour's worth of gas. The weather in tRide can be perfect but the winds will stop you from landing. Montrose is a 5 minute diversion and 99% of the time you can get in there. On the way back from KFXE, that is when a stop is normally required as you are battling 25-50knot headwinds.........down to KFXE, I've dodged weather and ended up doing 2000 SM and still landed with 400-500lbs of gas.
Whilst the Rockies can have inclement local weather the frontal stuff is what I pay attention to.
I dodge way, way, way more weather around New Orleans and the southern part of Florida than anywhere else in the country.........

Stop in Grand Island, NE KGRI Trego/Dugan tell them you want a quick turn around. They will bring 2 trucks waiting for you as you land and you will be out of there in 10 min max. Alas, yesterday for me kind of proved Jason's point - my "quick turn" was an hour due to various FBO snafus and slowness. The one a couple days earlier was better, but still about 40 mins of total ground time. I've had the occasional 30 minute turn, but there are frequently things that make it take longer. Sigh. Living in Denver, you need 1500mile range to make it non stop back from a lot of east coast spots. You can actually be non stop to just about anywhere in the lower 48, both directions, if you could pull off 1500 into winter headwinds. If I could cram another 75 gallons into my Soliatire I would be all set.

They break out the 2 hose truck too and nobody is there.

Now I remembered I stopped there a few years ago on my way back from East coast. They were very nice.
