Does "g" mean cannot be connected to an autopilot?

Ok.... So my strictly VFR airplane might be able to have a 3x installed?

If yes, what instruments need to stay in my strictly VFR airplane?

Would the 3X be able to replace any steam gauges I currently have?

Does the 5x STC replace anything at all or just a backup?

Trying to ditch my vac gauges / pump....lose the dead weight!!!!!

You need to examine the Equip List for your specific plane and determine what equipment is listed as (R)equired.

To replace a (R)equired item ... is gonna require a STC w/AML or Field Approval/337 w/ICA.

Kudos to EAA for STC their work.

The primary flight and engine instruments required by FAR have to stay (or be replaced by TSO'd gauges). So a picture's worth a thousand words...
The coms, transponder (ADS-B), and audio panel are all remote from the G3X Touch. There will be two iPads, the Pro shown, and a Mini on the yoke. The Gaurdian 680 will allow me to select frequencies through the Mini via BlueTooth...(and a whole lot more). The auto pilot isn't approved yet, but I'm saving a place in the panel for it.

Thanks Jim. Is the 3x approved for remote items? If so, This is the solution I have been looking for. :cross: :cross: :cross:

Yes, all of the remote boxes were approved under this 337, but your FISDO might have a different opinion. Only an STC will assure that you can bank on getting certain boxes installed and approved. The bottom line for my approval was "no IFR, and no auto pilot." Pretty much every other G3X Touch system will be incorporated into this panel.

Jim,

That's a great looking panel. Are you going with the GPS 20 for WAAS position? When I last talked to Garmin in May, I was told the GPS in the G3X is not an approved WAAS source for ADS-B out. Then I asked if they planned to works towards getting it approved and the answer was no. Their suggestion was the GPS 20 or one of the GNS/GTN boxes. Can't wait to hear when you get the autopilot and flight in IMC conditions approved....AND PICTURES DURING AND AFTER THE INSTALLATION.

Yep, GPS 20 and a pair of remote coms. (don't remember the number off hand) I won't have a nav, so no glide slope either. But, I am a VFR kinda guy, so this should keep me from wandering too far off the intended course. ;)

We've got the panel cut out, the glove box made, and the remote boxes mounted on the avionics shelf up front. Just now starting to wire everything up. Still waiting for the G5 and the iFDR680. Here are a couple of poor photos...

Jim,

I think what you're doing is great and may be a pioneer for many in the future, but with no VFR restriction.

With that said, seeems like a huge effort for VFR only. Did you consider just flush mounting a couple iPad Pros? Or perhaps an plan to remove restrictions at a later date?
