it seems the economics would dictate that single engine Jets would outsell single engine turboprops. The jet has less moving parts, no expensive and exposed propeller, along with its added weight, complexity, controls and resultant cost.

And, the piper jet just looks damn cool. The SF50 is fugly and the performance isn't quite that of a jet.

Well, just to be clear--the Altaire had a projected 1300 nm range with 45 minute reserve, not NBAA IFR reserve, which requires a lot more fuel. And that is putting aside that actual range is often less than the range projected by the manufacturer when a design is first announced.

You don't actually need a Canada Eclipse to get range in the 1300 nm ballpark when you stop talking NBAA reserves. The existing Eclipse has >1300 nm range with a VFR reserve:
