Straight 421's and 421A's are based on the early 411 airframe.
They have first generation Engines that are a problem.
The Short fuselage and wing gives poor SE and Twin engine performance.
They do not fly and handle like the B and C models
This is the short list.
If you want and like them go buy one.

All aviation is good. Cessna have done a pretty good job over the years. If the budget works it's ok.

Something else I can get under $75k pressurized?

If money is tight (and there's nothing wrong with that), you don't want to buy a cheap 421.

What Jim and Gerald are TRYING to say is that there is no such thing as a "cheap" early 421. I never gave any 421 much consideration as it is simply more airplane than I would ever need. The shop I use maintains several. One day an early model was there having work and I just asked my mechanic his experience. His response, specifically to the early models was pretty much :ohno: :pullhair:  and  In all the years I've used him, I don't think I have ever gotten such a negative response about an airplane.

But Jim, you've given so many good reasons to take the dive :peace: , do it. Then, after you have flown it a hundred hours, report back.

If old and tired you could get one for free and it may not be a bargain A well kept one is not a bad way to get around. The example presented may be an affordable but if it lunches an engine it may cost the purchase price of the airplane to replace one engine.

When looking at any aircraft consider what a current equivalent production aircraft would cost, tough on this model but, assume 1.5 million. Then understand that regardless the purchase price, you will be maintaining a 1.5M piece of equipment. Easy to buy, not so easy to maintain to A1 condition. These airplanes can and do kill people if not maintained to a high standard.

You might consider joining The Twin Cessna Flyer organization and asking about the plane on their forum: http://twincessna.org/index.asp

Someone there may know the plane..
