The way it was whipping around from the turbulence of the tail it would be hard to imagine it measuring anything very accurately.

I remember asking the same thing about the same piece of gear when I got a nickel tour of a 789 test mule a couple years ago.
OT- if you're an airplane lover then a nickel tour of any test mule is really great stuff! Aviation people are usually really nice that way (you never know if you don't ask), at least the Boeing guys were.

Another few inches of seat travel would make the ole relic at least tolerable.
The best band-aid fix would be the 757 nose pop riveted on the pointy end but if wishes were horses beggars would ride. Probably the only area where the airbus exceeds the 737. Cockpit size. The A320 has a big cockpit.

PanAm's heavy mx facility at MIA and (NASM's) Garber Restoration Facility @ Silver Hill. Neither offered "public" tours. But sometimes, a respectful request for a favor can score BIG rewards. (Anyone else here been inside Enola Gay?  ) Of course; it fails more often than not. Boeing's 787 mule at KOA was not open for visitors.

Just absolutely amazing what we can accomplish working together. I miss the eyebrow windows. We had them on the -500. Got them back in spades on my Aerostar though!
