TBM killer? Better price, better speed, better payload....

Competitively priced at $2.95 million ‘fully-equipped’, the sleek E1000 all-composite airframe, powered by the 1200-horsepower Pratt & Whitney PT6A-67A turbine engine, travels at speeds over 325 KTAS, offering a range of 1,650 nautical miles, climb rate over 4,000 feet per minute, authorized ceiling of 34,000 feet, and full fuel payload of 1,120 pounds.

I'm actually surprised that the plane doesn't fly faster than that. Doesn't the TBM 900 go 330ktas? With a much more sleek design and more light weight I don't know what's holding the Epic back.

The Epic cabin is wider than the TBM thats probably why.
I also think it should be faster with 150 more hp at cruise than the TBM 900.

Actually im not sure how high this engine holds the full 1000 hp at altitude, it could be lower than the 850 hp that the TBM 900 holds all the way to FL280.
This is basically the same engine thats in the PC12 so Jason can chime in at what altitude and temps he can hold 100 % torque. I believe its 1200 hp for 5 min and 1000 hp continuesly.

Redesinging the engine inlet might improve the speed as on the 900, it looks fairly small for 1200 hp.

Block speed should be faster as your climb rate is higher than the TBM.

I spoke to an engineer before and he was saying that aerodynamically it's better to have a more round cabin than a straight one. Can't say I know for certain but if that is the case then it's possible that the larger cabin of the Epic might not be more drag than the TBM.
