I've been above 10k in a Russian helicopter.

I'm apparently really brave or really foolish.

I have been to 510 in a Learjet 28 Longhorn

Just got a hint of the curvature.

My coolest ride ever.

Interesting. Now that must have been a ballistic flight path. Didn't L 28 pilots declare fuel emergencies upon takeoff?

Great airplane. Short legs, IIRC.

Not too sure about the Mig rental but I'd pay $18k for an hour in the F-15 with Ben Cook!

We did FL510 in the Lear 60 and Global Express. The Lear has to be really light to get there. The Global would do it, but it seems irresponsible taking pax up that high. if the cabin blows your chances are very low and theirs are even lower. Around 430 it starts to get dark and you can see the shadow of the earth. Not a human friendly place.

RE reliability of Russian stuff.

We used to stop in Petropavlosk Russia for fuel on the way to Asia from the states. There were hundreds of airframes of all types that looked like they hadn't moved in over 10 years. Saw a newer transport that looked like a A340 doing a quick turn and blew up an engine trying to start. We go to China quite a bit now and I have never seen any military aircraft flying there. We have gotten extensive ground delays in Dalian while the Chinese pull out there beautiful SU-27s, but I've never seen them successfully have one move under its own power.
