Love the DC-3. The Basler conversion maintains the DC-3 as one of the most capable multi-purpose platforms. In Special Forces we would use them on a regular basis. USFS would make their aircraft available to us in their "off season" and some other guys fly them too.

Here is a picture from December 2000 at the Fort Carson, Colorado airfield. We were staging for some night parachute infils into the high country west of the USAFA.

Scott,

Would you recommend flying my A36TC into benchmark to go Elk Hunting? How is the flying and landing? How about the Elk Hunting?

Benchmark is easy in terms of length. 6000 feet and paved at 5400 MSL. It is one of my least favorites as it never seems to smooth flying conditions. Always seems to be turbulent in there. Best way to come in to minimize that is to come in over Gibson Reservoir at 6500, pattern altitude. Fly up the river to the airport and land. This keeps you well below the tops of the mountains and out of as much of the turbulence as possible.
Call the folks at the wilderness lodge just south of the airstrip and ask them about the elk hunting, they would know best.
