To truly modernize/update an Eagle II's avionics, there is the Sierra "G501SP" avionics suite available. It's basically a three screen G1000 (G950) integrated to the SPZ500 A/P.

The only way you can hurt yourself in a straight wing Citation is to bump your knee getting in the door. They are easier to fly than your SR22 !

The training is just an ATP checkride then 1-2 days for recurrent every year. If someone can't commit to that little bit of training, then they probably shouldn't be flying anything ...

Mark,

I think its a very appealing airplane. I've been reading Sierra's information for a while and for the money and capability, in a jet, I don't know if you can do better. Fast, far and while not free not to expensive compared to the options.

You might be able to do this trip in a Conquest for less operating expense and maybe a Pilatus for more capital cost.

Do you want to commit to the training required? That's a big question I think. If you don't there are a boat load of pilots with the type rating. Put the plane on a management agreement and always have someone who can back you up or fly you.

Are you kidding?
You'll need bolt cutters to get the Iceman out of that cockpit.

I completely agree with TR, and the training should not be viewed as intimidating or an obstacle to the transition. I've personally never heard of anyone "going back" because the training was too difficult, couldn't commit or was too time consuming...

I know of one via hearsay. Pilot went to flightsim and the normal instructor was sick and he got his ex-wife's brother. So maybe there were a few other issues....

I don't disagree with you but there are a lot of pilots who do very little training. Read Tom's discussions of how few Beech pilots ever attend formal training. I think its not a big deal for someone like Mark. Except I thought the initial was something like 2 weeks?

We burn about 175gPH normal cruise in our S2. How much more efficient are the williams ? First hour is more like 220

Around 120 GPH cruise for a Williams CJ2+ at 400kts.

Just did DXR-FXE into a headwind in 3:15 using around 400 gallons. Saw 700pph for 400 kts @ FL450.

Hey Sean,

According to book, the Sierra Super SII (with FJ44-3A's) will burn 600 lbs. on its way up to FL430 (in less than 22 min.). First hour fuel burn at FL430 comes in at about 800 lbs. per hour, and then obviously decreases incrementally each hour thereafter. Typical Super SII cruise is 0.7 VMO @ 750 lbs. per hour, with a range of roughly 2300 nm. The -3A's are pretty darned efficient.

The williams powered citations are in the same ballpark as king airs in terms of efficiency.
